Gilford is located in Belknap County, New Hampshire.  It is part of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region.  It is situated on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee and the northern slopes of the Belknap Mountain range.

Gilford is home to Belknap Mountain State Forest, Ellacoya State Beach, Gunstock Mountain Ski Resort and the Meadowbrook U.S. Cellular Pavilion.

Gilford has been a popular summer tourist destination since the 1840’s, with many island properties being marketed for seasonal use.  The town had also become a popular winter destination for its cross-country skiing and Alpine skiing.  It is home to the state’s first motorized ski lift and some of the first ski rails.  

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Gilford was home to 6,803 residents.  This included 6,766 households and 2,019 families.  The average family size was 2.85 and the average household size was 246.
