Chester is located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire.  It is home to Chester College of New England and Chester Academy.

Chester was incorporated in 1722 and once included the town of Candia.  It was originally called The Chestnut Country.  

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Chester’s population at the time was 3,792 people.  This included 1,214 households, 1,011 families and 1,247 homes.  The average family size was 3.38 and the average household size was 3.09.  Chester is comprised of 25.9 square miles of land and 0.1 square miles of water.
